Applying for new US Passport in Edinburgh
« on: January 25, 2019, 05:11:31 PM »
I need to renew my US Passport before the middle of April.  I am planning to make an appointment to renew in person at the embassy in Edinburgh so I can pay with my debit card.  Has anyone recently done this in Edinburgh? if so how did it go? Also am I right in thinking I need to take:-

Expiring Passport
New Photo 2in X 2in
Form DS-82 completed online
Card to pay

Is the embassy wheelchair accessible and Is it ok for my Husband to accompany me to the Embassy and if so does he need to take his US Passport to get in?

Anything else you can tell me would be useful.

Thanks

I just did this in October, but didn't have an appointment.  I couldn't get an appointment and so I went during walk-in times.

I'm not sure about accessibility.  The vestibule is tiny with the metal detector and the window service area itself it very small.  The whole process only takes about 5 minute.  It was very easy!

You will also need a pre-paid envelope for them to send your passports back to you.

I have a friend who did her son's passport in December and she also found it quick and easy.

Thank you for getting back to me.  Did you get your prepaid envelope at the post office? it looks like they don't do walk-in any more you have to email for an appointment. We will have to travel to Edinburgh from Arbroath so it would be better to know we will be seen.

I really wanted an appointment because I'm not a 'take-a-chance' 'walk-in' kind of person but there wasn't any way to make an appointment online.  The phone number was a useless loop so I'm glad they've changed it an now you're meant to make an appointment.

Yes, I just got a pre-paid Special Delivery.  It's a security plastic envelope and cost about £7.
