Rejoining after many years away
« on: February 04, 2019, 05:09:40 PM »
Hello! My name is Janet, and I have just rejoined the forum after being inactive for a lot of years!

I moved over to the UK from the US in December 2002. I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma; but I lived in Southern Illinois, Houston (twice), and NYC (Midtown Manhattan) also. I initially moved into a temporary flat in Oxford, but I became a resident of a village in “Banburyshire” in the spring of 2003. And I am still here!

I moved to Britain on a five-year work visa with a position in Oxford, working for a corporate training company based in both Oxford and in Princeton, NJ.  I had met my now-husband in the mid-1990s, when he was working in London and I was working for an oil company in Houston. We got married in 2006, I got my Indefinite Leave to Remain in 2007, I retired in 2011, and I became a UK citizen in 2016.

Meanwhile, in April 2013, we adopted a former Irish stray from the Dogs Trust, and our Tulie is a very important member of our little family!

I joined this forum before I moved here and was active for a few years. I got a lot of help from members here as I settled into English life. Now that I have a bit more time, I thought I would rejoin. Perhaps I can help other newcomers to Britain as I was helped when I first moved here!

Janet
