EIN for HR Block US Fed taxes
« on: April 10, 2019, 09:25:04 PM »
Hi, I am trying to file my federal taxes for the US and am not able to submit my return without supplying an Employer Identification Number (EIN). My company doesn't operate in the US so I assume it wouldn't have an EIN. What should I fill in here? Without putting in an EIN, the H&R block system doesn't let me input my income (below the US taxable amount- so I shouldn't have to pay US taxes).

Are you using form 4852 as a substitute form for a W2?

I use this form  to report my UK private pensions and I just make up an EIN. The form says “If known” but the stupid software insists on a number in the correct format. (Form 4852 is also used as a substitute for a 1099-R)

6 Employer’s or payer’s identification number (if known)
