Tax Confusion
« on: May 12, 2019, 10:00:37 AM »
I’m just in the middle of filing my taxes and I am so massively confused. I’m filing through H&R Block’s free file. I’ve always used them and typically they spell things out pretty easily.

I worked as a teacher for 2018 and only made about 35,600 USD. I’ve already gone though the gov.uk website to check to make sure that was accurate.

I’ve been in the U.K. since mid 2017.

When it asks me about my “tax home”. It’s asking me for a “description” and the “date established”. Is that when i entered the U.K.?

Then I carry onto the part when it asks about the Foreign Earned Income tax Exclusion. And as I’ve been looking it up....I qualify for that because of the salary amount I made.

One I get most of the way through it...it always checks for errors. The only one I get is about where I’ve inputted my wages. It says “The excluded wages in the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (form 2555) topic can’t be more than wages in the W2 of Foreign Wages not on a W2. Review what you e entered and make sure it’s accurate”

But I don’t have any W2s because I haven’t worked in the US since March 2017.

Please help!

I think that when you enter you UK wages you enter it as if you had a W2 so that it appears on line 1 as earned income.
Dual USC/UKC living in the UK since May 2016
