So my US wife has completed and submitted her online visa application.  All documents are ready to go and she's booked her biometric appointment (24 Jul).

But then we noticed an error in the way we answered one of the questions.  It asks are you married to another person to which we answered 'yes' when we should have answered 'no'.  As a result, at the end of the application, it asks for proof of the other marriage that being my wife's marriage to her former husband who she divorced in 1998.  She has the divorce certificate which is ready to upload.

So to my question: if my wife points out the error in her covering letter highlighting the fact that her divorce certificate is enclosed, will that be acceptable?  The alternative is to cancel the application, request a refund, which I'm told will take 6 weeks to come through then start the application process all over again.

The clock is ticking to next Wednesday's biometric appointment so if someone can get back to me ASAP we would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Bob

Historically, the advice was to mark the edit on the printout of the application.  The general thought was with the old application (visa4uk), the ECO never actually sees the electronic application, but only the printout that's submitted with the supporting evidence.  I don't know if that's still the case since the switch to AccessUK, but you could try it.

Also point out the error in the covering letter, and the other mitigating steps you mentioned.  But it could be as simple as marking out the "yes" and writing in "no".
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

...thak you - you are a life saver and what you say makes sense so fingers crossed. Can I be a real pain and ask a few more questions...

1.  Sending her passport to NY.  We know she has to send her current passport to NY but does she also have to send old (expired) passports, which she had listed as requested in the visa application?

2. Uploading documents.  We know that you have to send to NY (1) the printed out visa application, (2) the stamped biometric sheet/document, (3) her current passport and (4) a passport photograph. Should she also upload copies of her passport (photo page) and biometric sheet/document or just post them?

Below is the list of stuff being sent/uploaded as detailed in my wife's covering letter, if you don't mind casting an eye over it (thank you in advance  :))

1.   Visa application (USPS).
2.   Stamped biometric document (USPS).
3.   Sponsor letter - from my husband dated July 4, 2019 (scanned/uploaded).
4.   Land Registry Deed - for my husband’s property, which he owns outright (scanned/uploaded).
5.   Pension Advice of Payment - for the year 2019-20 for my husband’s Armed Forces Pension (scanned/uploaded).
6.   Bank statements – (originals or certified copies) for the period January – June 2019, proving payment of my husband’s pension (highlighted) into his bank account (scanned/uploaded).
7.   My husband's passport – a certified copy of the photo page of my husband’s passport (scanned/uploaded).
8.   Personal greeting cards – received from my husband (scanned/uploaded).
9.   Text Message Screenshots – evidence of our relationship covering the period November 2013 – June 2019 (scanned/uploaded).
10.   Email Screenshots - evidence our relationship covering the period July 2014 – January 2018 (scanned/uploaded).
11.   Photographic Evidence – photos of me and my husband (scanned/uploaded).
12.   Visits and Holidays – evidence of our trips to the UK/USA and of a cruise my husband and I took in April 2018 (scanned/uploaded).
13.   My current passport (USPS).
14.   My old passports – copies of the photo pages of my old passports (scanned/uploaded).
15.   Passport Photo – one passport photo of Lynn Meldrum (USPS).
16.   My husband's divorce decree (scanned/uploaded).
17.   My divorce decree (scanned/uploaded).
18.   Our marriagecCertificate (scanned/uploaded).
19.   UPS Return Label (USPS).

Many thanks,

Bob

I notice you have USPS beside the docs you are intending to send to New York.. do not use USPS. Use UPS instead, for safety. You do not want to risk loosing your passport at this stage in the game!

See Larrabee's comment above mine about the courier she should use.

1.  I believe she only needs to send in the current passport.  The visa will be issued as a sticker (visa vignette) placed inside the current passport.  It will grant her leave to enter the UK within a 30-day window that will be stated on the vignette.  Once she has entered the UK, she will go to a designated Post Office to collect her BRP (an identity card with her visa status on it).  The BRP then will be her physical visa.  But for that all to happen, the people in New York need her current passport to stick the vignette sticker into.  They don't have a need for physical handling her old passports... UKVI only want to see those to get a look at her travel history.

2.  I would upload everything and also post the things that need to be posted.  Remember to use UPS, not USPS.
