What is needed to move to the UK from the US?
« on: July 24, 2019, 03:25:30 PM »
I have a friend who has married a USC and they are both living in the US. She said they ultimately plan to move to the UK but it left me wondering what the process is? Would she need to come over and work for 6 months before any application can be made? Can she show that she is moving over into a job that pays over £18,600?

It just made me wonder what the most seamless process is for both of them to move over with their recent baby?

I am fairly confident that these are correct scenarios:

If the UKC has been earning at least £18600 (or the equivalent in USD) over the last 12 months, and has a job paying at least £18600 waiting for them in the UK to start within 3 months of the move, the UKC can sponsor the USC's visa from the US and they can move over together.

OR, if they have at least £62500 (or the USD equivalent) in savings and have had it for at least 6 months (or if they have owned a home for at least six months and the proceeds from selling it is at least £62500, they can use that), then the UKC can sponsor the USC's application from the US and they can move over together.

They would need to register the baby's birth for UK citizenship and get its UK passport, of course.  Also, they would need to have secured a place to live in the UK before applying so they can show adequate accommodation in the application.
