Taxes
« on: December 07, 2019, 10:15:06 AM »
Hello everyone!

I have been happily living in the UK with my husband on a spousal Visa for very close to two years now.
In February this year I flew back to to the US to visit and met with someone to file my taxes for me. This year I wont be flying back though and I have no idea how to do my US tax business while I'm over here.
In the past I would use Turbo Tax and things like that to file for myself- is that still a viable option? When I was in the states the person who helped me file said my husband would need to sign something in person? I really wish I would have taken notes! At the time I just assumed I would be flying back to Texas again. Naturally, the universe laughed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes you can use TurboTax from the UK and file electronically, our son does this every year. We use a tax accountant and we do everything via email, then she sends me a pdf to print out, sign and file.

In other words there are options to still file manually or electronically depending on your preferences without being in the USA to sign stuff.

There are several excellent dually US/UK qualified American tax advisers here in the UK. There is no need to fly to the States. It sounds as if the guy in the States you saw last year was thinking of having your husband apply for an ITIN. If desired, this can also be easily achieved here in the UK by using an IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent.

Thank you both! I will look into someone dually registered.
