DDC Check
« on: December 28, 2019, 12:51:34 PM »
Grrr, trying to get my DDC check done as we have to service equipment in schools, but something has changed since last one...I have an ILR and now the DDC check says I need a resident card, preferably a biometric one, I had to get fingerprinted for my initial spousal visa which is now an ILR. Anyone have this problem for work? Really dont want to spent 65 quid and the hassle of getting a resident card

Wasn’t your ILR issued as a biometric resident permit?

Ah, in that case, I believe you will need to transfer your current visa to a BRP.

Or at least, if your visa sticker is currently in a valid passport, you will definitely need to get a BRP when your passport expires.

This is because in order to prove your right to work, employers can now only accept either:
- a visa sticker in a VALID passport
Or
- a valid passport with no sticker (I.e. a renewed passport) AND a separate BRP
You can no longer just show an ILR sticker in an expired passport as proof of right to work in the UK.

See here for how to replace your visa sticker with a BRP:
https://www.gov.uk/biometric-residence-permits/replace-visa-brp

It costs £229 for an ILR BRP. If you want to use the premium service for a 24-hour decision, it costs an extra £800 on top of the £229.

You will also need to be fingerprinted and photographed (biometrics) again as this is required for every single visa or citizenship application you make, regardless of the format the visa is issued in.

The £65 residence cards are for EEA citizens and their family members only... they are not visas just evidence of their automatic right to live and work in the UK - so that is not what you need because they are issued under EEA immigration rules and you have ILR under UK immigration rules.

Have you considered citizenship?  Means you don’t have to keep up with the rules!
