Happy to report that I accepted a job offer yesterday!!

I had 2 interviews last week - one for a post at the library in the next town over and one for the Waterstones in town (about a 10 minute walk from my flat). Both are part-time and, once I factor in travel expenses, pretty much the same pay. Waterstones is maternity cover until January and the library would've been permanent.

I heard back from the library first and, although I wasn't appointed to the post, they said they really liked me and my interview and offered me relief work - which I turned down because I was looking for something more reliable. Then about 30 minutes later Waterstones called and offered me the position!

I actually had a GREAT time at my Waterstones interview and ended up chatting with the two guys who interviewed me for over an hour. ;D They pretty much told me that it was mine and that I was far and away the best candidate (helloooo confidence boost) EXCEPT that I wouldn't be available for Christmas since I'll be back in the US. But then when he called me yesterday he said they were so impressed that they was no way they couldn't hire me.

Needless to say I'm very pleased!! I'll be starting mid-July, after my parents leave (they'll be here for a visit next week)! Woohoo!

Awesome! Congratulations!!!  ;D

I was hoping to see you as I was riding by so I could tell out the window... "Hey Ricky Baby"...

A late congratulations on the job!! I hope this isn't creepy, but I saw your post when I was looking through the job boards and wanted to say hi because I am also up in Elgin!  :) I'm going through a similiar sounding job search, hoping to get at least a part time soon. Do you mind me asking if you got any interviews before you had volunteering on your resume? I've been striking out pretty much everywhere so far. Also let me know if you want to get a drink or something sometime!

Thank you!! It's been a fabulous fit for me and SO nice to be able to get out of the house a few days a week and socialise. ;D Little do they know that I'd happily be around books all day for free...

Not creepy at all -- nice to know there's someone else up in Elgin. I only had one interview before I started volunteering, for a full time position down in Edinburgh but that's it. I didn't have any interview offers for things I applied for in Elgin. It was a pretty soul destroying process as (I'm sure you've noticed...) the job market here is pretty dire and low paying. But oh well. ::)

Also YES would definitely love to meet up. I had a wee look through your past posts and it looks like we have quite a bit in common! I'll PM you :)

Resurrecting this thread! I accepted a full-time (and permanent!) job in Glasgow that starts in January and my husband is going to finish out the school year up here in Moray and join me in June. I'll be staying at my MIL's during the week and we'll trade off him coming down to Glasgow and me coming up to Elgin. I will keep our current address as my permanent address so all my post will be coming here still.

I just want to make sure that I avoid any pitfalls when it comes to my FLR in summer 2021 - @jfkimberly did you include a cover letter when you had to explain your situation for ILR? I'm planning on keeping a log of Facetimes/phone calls (like what we submitted for my spouse visa) covering the months apart just in case. My main concern is that I won't be back in Elgin every weekend  - it'll probably be 1 out of every 3.

Any thoughts appreciated! I'm really excited about the new job but want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row. :)

Well, I should first say that I applied in person, back when applying in person was still a thing.

To answer your specific question, I didn't include a cover letter, as I was there to explain anything if they had questions.  But since my husband's post was coming to our new address, even though he was away during the week, we didn't think we would need to explain it anyway.  Our post was addressed to the two of us at the same address, so that was our proof of relationship.  They didn't seem to question his Salisbury work address versus our southwest Wales home address.

If you're really worried about your situation, keep the logs of your contact while apart, and explain it in a cover letter.  I tend to use the term "proof of cohabitation" on this site, because that's essentially what the default evidence is.  But the rules are looking for "proof of relationship", which is why you show that you were living together when/if you were (by correspondence sent to the same address), or you show how you maintained regular contact if you weren't living together (through chat logs, etc.).  You're going to have the option of including both, so you will have plenty of evidence to support your genuine and subsisting relationship.  :)
9/1/2013 - "fiancée" (marriage) visa issued
4/6/2013 - married (certificate issued same-day)
5/6/2013 - FLR(M)#1 in person -- approved!
8/1/2016 - FLR(M)#2 by post -- approved!
8/5/2018 - ILR in person -- approved!
22/11/2018 - Citizenship (online, with NDRS+JCAP) -- approved!
14/12/2018 - I became a British citizen.  :)

That's so helpful! Thank you (as always) for the advice jfk. :)
