ILR and Travel

I was just catching up on some of the latest posts and suddenly am panicking....
I am able to send off my ILR application from the 25th March this coming year.  Which I wanted to do before the rates go up in April.

However, I just realised I won’t have my passport and I have several trips book - first one is to the States for work April 28th.

Is there any sort of consideration for priority for work travel?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

If you use the premium service which costs £800 you should get your decision within 24 hours and your BRP a few days later.

That is great albeit extremely expensive.  So from the submission of the online application it would 24 hours?

Also anyone heard any rumours about the increase in ILR in April? Every year it has seem to increase significantly...

From the appointment. Also, you should be aware that they don't always make the decision within that timeframe but most of the problems were back when they first introduced the service.

The old fallback of course is, never book travel until you have your visa in your hand.

What’s your expiry date?  May be less stressful to apply after you travel.  I know 3 people in real life who have NOT had their decision in 24 hours.  But I know 2 who did.  Lol.  It is UKVI after all.

It’s says 5/8/2020 so I assume UK date format which means August 5th.  So yes I’m thinking of submitting online application the day I get back from my work trip, May 6th.  Not sure how long until the in person appt but ideally would love to have it sorted within a month.  I’m supposed to go on a girls weekend trip mid June but thankfully haven’t purchased the flights yet...

They don't do in person appointments anymore.  You apply at different application centres around the country.  The quickest is the 24 hour decision which seems to work sometimes but not all the time.  I would recommend paying the premium simply because ILR can take up to six months otherwise. 

And yes, you have until August, which is great.  Lots of time to apply after the trip and save yourself a bit of sanity.  Have you taken your LIUK test already?

Yes just took the Life in the UK test two weeks ago and passed...told my co-workers (who have seen me studying), if they want a brush up on British history, let me know

If it doesn't expire until August, you could even wait until after the girls trip.  Totally get if you don't want to wait, though.  I was lucky enough to have my decision back within six hours of my biometrics appointment so, for me, the extra money was worth it to be able to go home for Thanksgiving.  I did have a bit of a wait for my actual appointment after submitting my application online, 20 days + another 5 for my BRP to arrive.  If you want a free appointment, the wait was a bit longer.  Hopefully you won't have any issues there but it's just something to keep in mind when planning dates.

@Beatlemania Many thanks, I didn’t even consider with priority that it may take 20 days to get the appointment.  Helps for understanding the overall timeline.

hey dtowngirl - i'm also someone who's constant travel made ILR applications a pain!

if it helps, i did priority, was about to book an appointment at croydon about 15 days later (but that cost another £100ish). My appointment was around 10AM, and I got my decision emailed back around 3pm. I got my BRP about a week later.

strong recommendation to go the premium route.
