When to stop voluntary NI contributions
« on: January 14, 2020, 03:10:17 PM »
This is information for those approaching State Pension age and are paying voluntary NI contributions.

Looking at my record and forecast online it states that on my birthday, Feb 2021, I will stop paying NI contributions. My question was what happens to the 9 months of contributions in that tax year as I will not have completed 52 weeks of contributions that year. I did some searching and Googling and couldn't find an answer so I called the toll free number and waited my turn which took some minutes but was well worth it.

The answer is that any contributions made after April 5th 2020 will not count towards my pension, and the forecast shown on the website is the most I can get assuming that I complete these last 2 payments (February and March). Yay!!

With both my wife and myself there have been multiple screw-ups with the NI contributions that get paid automatically each month so I need to make sure that no payments are taken after April 5th this year.

Just in case there are others here in a similar position I thought I would share this news.
