Unmarried partner visa: Any recent experience?
« on: March 11, 2020, 02:38:47 PM »
Has anyone had recent experience with an "unmarried partner" visa? I am curious to know what level of detail is needed for "proof" of a relationship (other than lease, council tax, etc).

For example: Did you need to give references who could speak to your relationship? Do you need to undergo an interview? What did you say in your supporting letter?

Any feedback on your experiences would be appreciated.

You need 6 documents proviing you share a household "akin" to marriage.  They need to be spread evenly over the previous 2 years.  One joint document (or 2 individual) documents spread every 4 months from at least 3 different official sources.

Things like:
Lease
Land registry
Mortgage documents
Bank statements
Utility bills
Council tax
HMRC letters
DVLA letters
NHS letters

Are you applying from inside or outside the UK?

There is no interview and no character references can be considered.

If applying from outside the UK, the only letter they will look at is the sponsor letter of support for the visa, which should contain:
- how they qualify to be a sponsor (UK citizenship)
- how they meet the financial requirement (financial category and employment details)
- where you will live together in the UK (property details, address and number of people living there)
- short history of your relationship, dates and facts only.

If you are applying from inside the UK, you don't need a sponsor letter.

In regards to the proof of relationship, you must show that you have lived together in the same house for the last 24 consecutive months.

So, you would include things like:
- tenancy agreements in both names
- property deeds
- utility bills
- bank statements
- tax returns with both names on them
- letters from your doctor or government departments
