Giving stuff to people in isolation
« on: April 01, 2020, 09:28:17 AM »
Now that flour is back in the store, I thought I might offer to make bread for people that are in isolation.  Of course, I want to make sure that they are comfortable bringing it into their houses.
Experts of UK Yankee, how should I manage this so that I can be sure not to make anyone sick?  Rick especially, what precautions did you guys take with the food you delivered?  I've got a surgical mask but no gloves.

Masks, gloves, and sanitizer. Food placed outside of the door, people only spoke from the window/doors.

I'd be extra careful with how you prepare it too. Make sure you're wearing mask, have hair covered, and use clean gloves at all points in the prep and packaging. Then do a no contact delivery. :)

I thought that cooking would kill any coronoavirus that may be present up the point I put the stuff in the bread machine. I thought normal levels of cleanliness would be fine until I actually took the done bread out of the pan and put it into a bag.

The advice for cooking onesself to kill the virus tells you what will work:

Quote
Outside the body, "to actively kill the virus you need temperatures of around 60 degrees [Celsius]", says Professor Bloomfield - far hotter than any bath.

Washing bed linen or towels at 60C is a good idea, as this can kill any viruses in the fabric. But it's not a good option for washing your skin.

So, baking the bread, then safe handling when it comes out, should be good.
