I think you may be allowed to submit the documents in colour so long as they do not go over 6MB each.

I think they are asking for black and white to help keep the file size down. But I can’t see anyone being penalised for scanning things in colour so long as the file size is met.

We have done the same, by the way. Everything is scanned in colour.

We did the same here. Pretty sure it is just to help with the filesize. Everything was under 6 megabytes and the uploads went just fine.

I only meant that it's ridiculous in the same way its ridiculous to not allow e-bank statements when my electronic statement looks EXACTLY the same as my scanned originals.

It's obviously not important for things to be on original letterhead, so why even ask for it?

That's actually one of the more important things. So they can tell that the correspondence is genuinely from your bank or your employer etc.
But try not to spend too much time dwelling on that sort of issue. It's better to concentrate your energies on providing exactly what they ask for, in exactly the format they ask for it in, rather than questioning why they are asking for it.  :)
