Hi Alexandria,

I don't have too much to add here, but I just wanted to say, my husband and I are currently going through the exact same process!

He came over to the US 5 years ago and we are currently looking at applying for a spouse visa for me so we can both relocate to the UK. He also meets the financial requirements with his US employment, so he is just actively applying for jobs in the UK (which is tricky, given the current pandemic!). Once he gets an offer letter, we can go ahead and apply, but since it could take up to three months, there's the possibility he would have to go over first without me, which is a bit of a bummer :-\\\\ As far as your online application question, it's my understanding that all supporting documents should be uploaded digitally, and it is only your passport that is sent off (AFTER your biometrics appointment).

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I completely understand what your going through, and let me know if you ever want to chat about the crazy process!

Hi! I am so happy to meet someone who is going through the same thing. I would love to chat and follow along with your journey since you are a bit ahead of us. We are having our English wedding celebration (finally!) next June in Engand, and we need to get through that first before we can move. If that even happens now with everything! But yes, would love to follow along as you go through the process in regards to how long things take for you, both jobwise and visawise. Thanks!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I completely understand what your going through, and let me know if you ever want to chat about the crazy process!

I'm new and trying to learn all of this too as my husband and I are in the same boat! (I moved to the US from the UK a few years ago and we are wanting to move to the UK).

I have a question which I am just curious about, when you have to provide an "official job offer letter from a UK company", how does immigration know that it's legit and official? Do they contact that employer for example because I can imagine people wanting to try and fake this?

I don't even know when's the best time for my husband to apply for the spouse visa, as I have been on furlough since march therefore I'm on unemployment money.. does that mean say if my husband would apply now for the spouse visa I would just use the last 12 months of pay checks from when I was working? (March 2019-March 2020)

I'm thankful for this forum for sure!

They don’t usually contact the employer directly, but they will confirm that the company exists and is legitimate, in order to make sure it is not fake.

A lot of people have an official, signed job contract for the new job as well, which they include with the documents, and in some cases, the UK sponsor may end up having to go back to the UK to start the job while the applicant is waiting for their visa.

There are temporary provisions and allowances in place for people who are currently furloughed or who have lost income due to Covid.

See here for more details:

If you start a new topic specifically for your application, we can help you with your personal situation and with any questions you have, without it getting lost amongst other people’s questions and application circumstances :).
