Is unused spouse visa time added FLR(M)?

My husband entered the UK on 5th May 2018 on the spouse visa which expires 24 January 2021.

If I understand correctly, we can apply now and I've just realised if got the application in now, we would save before the IHS goes up on 27 October.

Can anyone confirm whether they will add the unused time (up to 24 January) to his new visa?

I'd hate to rush things now, just to make timelines tighter down the line. I had budgeted for the increased charge but if we are ready and can make the savings, it might make sense just to do that now.

I think they’re supposed to make the FLR(M) valid start from the end date of your current visa, but I don’t know for sure.

Bear in mind though that it can take up to 8 weeks for the FLR(M) to be processed and you may need to (or choose to) wait a few weeks before attending biometrics, so actually, your FLR(M) may not be issued until December or January anyway... meaning that if they don’t give you the extra time, it might only be a difference of a few days or a few weeks anyway.
