USA Passport Expiring
« on: July 08, 2020, 02:25:21 PM »
Hi, hope everyone is well. I wanted to know if anyone can advise me on the situation I am in.

My U.S passport is expiring on the 22nd February 2021 and the BRP is expiring SEP 2022.

Both my passport and BRP have my maiden name.
As my passport is expiring I wanted it changed to my married name.

1. So my first question is how do I renew my passport showing married name.

2. Once I've changed the passport name can I then change the BRP to show the married name, and how?

Thanks guys

1. You simply apply for a new US passport in your married name, and include evidence of your new name (i.e. marriage certificate

2. Once you have your new passport in your married name, you have 3 months to change your name on your BRP, or you can be fined £1,000 and have your visa curtailed. In order to change your name on your BRP,  you must apply online and pay £161. You will also be required to give biometrics again. It can take up to 2 months for the new BRP to be processed, or you can pay an extra £800 for 24-hour processing.

See here for changing your name on your BRP:
https://visas-immigration.service.gov.uk/product/biometric-residence-permit-replacement-service?_ga=2.53509871.651418055.1594215439-1024994036.1592941448

Ideally, it's easiest to change your name on your passport within 3 months of when you apply for FLR(M), so that you can just apply for your new visa in your married name and you don't have to pay change your BRP only a couple of months before you apply for the new visa. However, if your passport expires more than 3 months before you can apply for the next visa, you won't be able to do this.

Thank for the help. Do I have to mail it to the US embassy in London or is there a appointment based service

You'll have to check the US Embassy website for their procedures:
