American Law - Help Wanted Please!!

This seems like the best forum on this site to ask this question. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have a very best friend who I met online and grew very close to, so much so, that 2 years ago I flew over to the USA to spend time with him and we are extremely close, but I knew that he had mental and psycho problems, and, without going into detail, he is now in jail on ALLEGED manslaughter charges. His bond was previously $100,000, but now its been reduced to $25,000!! He has been sent by the courts to various psychiatric hospitals for analysis and treatments and then back to the local detention center over the course of the past 6 months.

What I want to know though, is the reduction in the bond a good or a bad thing??

Any advice and knowledge from someone who is well versed in American Law would be very much appreciated

Means their attorney requested the bond to be reduced and the defendant is deemed to be a low risk for violating bond, likely a first time offender, and not a danger to society.

Hes always, ever since I've known him been very loving, kind, selfless, spiritual, and his erratic behaviour just isnt the REAL person that I know!!

Manslaughter is a serious charge, even if he is released on bond before the trial he has a long road ahead of him. Only his lawyers know what is likely to happen should the case progress to a trial (vs plea deal if offered).  Unfortunately mental health care in the US and UK are erratic at best, and that sounds like a tragic outcome for all involved.

Honestly, there is no way to know anything.  We don't know the facts in his case, we don't know what evidence prosecutors have, we don't know how strongly prosecutors even want to pursue the case, we don't know what the results of your friend's psychological examination is, we don't know what your friend's current mental state is...  we don't know anything.  With only your sketchy details to go on, there's no way to make any kind of prediction, or even hazard a guess as which way it's likely to lean.

I will say you're mentioning his mental state quite a lot, and if that's because you think he's more likely to be released if they believe he acted out merely because of a mental health crisis, it doesn't work like that.  That is not likely to get him set free.

If he posts the $25,000, yes. If he doesn’t, I don’t think there is a snowballs chance in hell.  If it was an auto accident, yes, they would likely release on his own recognisance.  Sounds like there is more to it than that.  Someone who is schitozoprenic  May be released to a mental health facility with security, but would likely be at the cost to the family.   Unfortunately while jail won’t help his mental state, there may not be other options.

I'm not entirely sure how to comment on this thread, as this isn't even close to anything I know much about.  It sounds all sad all around and I do hope if he's unwell he can get some mental health help.  Hugs to you, hard to be far away when you can't do much. 

All I have done so far is compile character reference letters, sent emails to social workers, and his Lawyers, and I will contact all the Judges involved as well, if I have to!! The REAL Brandon would never do anything like burn down the house, commit arson kill his grandparents, assault his mother or anything, its just these Goddamn voices that he listened to and one of the voices was and still is a gay lover he had a few years who he knew from childhood as they are cousins and that in his head he is desperately "in love with", and all his frustrations have been vented out on the fact that everyone has told him that its all not real but in his head and that his gay lover, the real life one, is not interested in him!! Hes very much controlled and manipulated by these voices and hes been on virtually every psycho medication on the market to alleviate them, to no avail!!
