Travel to EU with US passport
« on: July 02, 2020, 08:40:24 AM »
Hi everyone,

Will US citizens living in the UK be able to travel in Europe this summer?

My husband and I (both US citizens) have flights to Sardinia at the end of July. Italy is open to the UK but not to the US... do you think we will have problems at the border? I am also concerned about coming back to the UK. Has anyone traveled now that the restrictions are starting to loosen?

Thanks
B

Have you gotten any advise on this? I'm thinking about travelling to Greece but am worried about running into issues cos of COVID with my US passport.

Thanks,

Whether you are allowed in or not is about what country you are travelling FROM, whether you are RESIDENT in that country (not necessarily a citizen) and where you have travelled in the last 14 days.

So, you'll need to check the rules for each country you wish to enter, as it's the individual country's government that sets the rules.

For Italy, if you are a foreign national living in the UK, you are allowed to enter Italy without quarantining as long as you have not been in a high-risk country (i.e. the US) in the 14 days before entering Italy.
See: https://www.esteri.it/mae/en/ministero/normativaonline/decreto-iorestoacasa-domande-frequenti/focus-cittadini-italiani-in-rientro-dall-estero-e-cittadini-stranieri-in-italia.html

For Greece, you'll need to check their requirements for entry, but I believe if you are resident in the UK, you can enter Greece.

Considering that the government just did something completely off the wall about Spain with no regrets about how many people were screwed over, imho you are playing with fire

Thanks all for the advice.

Amanda, did you end up going to Greece?

Unfortunately our flight for July was cancelled, but we rescheduled it for early Sept. Hoping we can still go. It really doesn’t bother me if have to quarantine for 2-weeks afterwards... I probably would anyway regardless of whether it’s enforced or not.

I am curious if anyone else has left the country?

Hiya we've not gone yet but have booked the flights so we'll see come the end of the month if it was a successful trip!

I'll let you know how it goes.
