Greg and Tre's Mortgage Conundrum

Hi all

We're having a rethink about our housing situation, as the 1-bed flat that I have a mortgage on that Tre moved into in October is a little small now that we also have a cat, and furthermore our management company has done the time-honoured trick of bumping up our service charge by a considerable amount :/

So we've started investigating options, but we're running into a couple of obstacles:

One is that some of my income is from a non-permanent contract, and so a lot of 'high street' lenders shy away (I had this issue getting my current mortgage)

The other is that a lot of lenders won't consider Tre's income due to him currently being on a spouse visa. Surely there are lenders that will?

So I was wondering if anyone can recommend either lenders or mortgage brokers that we can turn to next? Word of mouth recommendations are so valuable in this game!

We went through London and country. I was on a tier 2 at the time - although I was a month or two away from ilr at the time.

But try them - had a great experience.

London and Country, as Kate mentioned above, is a very well-known broker, as is John Charcol.
Lots of wee independent ones around, but L&C and John Charcol, given that they are so big, possibly have access to more lenders.

Also, with looking to sell this flat, does anyone have any tips on how to go about that?  Has anyone used any of the DIY agents such as HouseSimple?

We're in East London, and put our house on with Yopa at the end of July, had an offer accepted in less than 10 days. We are under contract, don't have a completion date yet but looks like all is going well. We did the premium listing, so the agent handled the showings (there were 2 evenings of showings, a week apart, and all by appointment, and with social distancing/masks etc.) I don't think the high street agencies are worth it quite frankly, they all do the same thing, and as long as you are listed on Rightmove and Zoopla, that's where everybody looks. You need to clear out clutter and have good pics. Good luck!
