Out of Hours
« on: August 26, 2020, 03:20:56 PM »
After a fun-packed taxi to the out-of-hours GP after several phone calls an 45 minutes on hold at 111, we got a prescription for an antibiotic we know won't work (years of experience) and the one we said was needed couldn't be written because we have to use the one that doesn't work first.... and no pharmacy onsite or anywhere nearby that was open. So the point of taking a cross-town taxi was to get access -last night- to medications that would nip this in the bud before it gets much worse. Wasted time, that.

Medication is now here in our house after a hike to the high street to get it. And apparently not working, although it's still early. I know it's "free" (not counting an epic taxi bill. But really?  ::)

Welcome to the NHS. I always call my GP when I start feeling unwell to get the antibiotics quickly, but have had to "fail" lots of meds again since moving. With their policies on antibiotics it's not surprising they are having you try that first, hopefully it helps but if not call GP and they should be able to order the next step up.

Also, 111 online works much better than waiting on hold. I've always had a call back pretty quickly and if it's something that needs seen they schedule the out of hours appointment.

Nan, you can always phone your GP today and see if they will prescribe you the one that works
