What Should I Expect at Heathrow Travelling to USA?

Hi, I am a US citizen and have ILR in the UK where I live with my wife and children. I have booked a flight in a couple weeks to support my mum as my father recently passed away. I am flying from London to New York and have somewhere to isolate when I get to the USA. I just wanted to double check it is still ok to travel in these circumstances with the new restrictions?

Firstly, I am so very sorry for your loss. That is terrible news.

Secondly, this is definitely a reason for exception to the travel ban and it's situations like this that are the reasons for the exceptions. If there is any way to show police/airport staff your valid reasoning for travelling (such as death certificate etc) to ease your already stressful reason for travelling that will help. Again, very sorry to hear about your news.

Yup, no holidays, full stop. Chances are your flight will be cancelled anyway.  Sorry, I know it sucks.

Yep. We were seriously considering going for Christmas now instead. But, we've come round to just accepting it's irresponsible and better times will be ahead next year (hopefully) where we will have reduced stress about passing things on etc. Sucks, as you say. Safety and health comes first, though.

My friend's Dad passed away in Colorado in May. My friend is British and at the airport had to show proof to go on the flight. His Mum had to text him a copy of his Dad's green card to go.

This was more to be allowed on the flight and into America because he is British and not an American citizen. So I would say start with a photo of your Dad's passport. I would just take anything. Birth certificate copy? Any type of communication of his passing from hospital/care home etc? Communication with funeral companies? Might be worth showing he was a resident so maybe a recent bill? I would be surprised if you really got grilled about your travel. You're travelling on your own, a flight booked very recently and flying very soon, American citizen flying to USA. A lot of common sense about your situation here but you need something to show, however, for absolute proof.

You might not even get asked at any point of your journey. Best to be prepared however.

I would ask the US embassy for guidance. Barring a quick response there, the airline.
