Hi friends,

I just wanted to drop a quick message to let you know I was lucky enough to sit (and pass!) my Life in the UK test today.

I'm London based and took it at a center in Hounslow and everything was handled very well. You waited outside the center in a line 2m apart and taken in one by one to the front desk where you were asked to sanitize your hands and put your belongings in a locker. You were then sent to a room where they asked the usual (name/birthday/sort of visa you were applying for) and they took your picture. You were then sent to another room where you sat the test, but only before sanitizing your hands again. They sat people with an empty computer between them and were quick to allow people to leave once they finished their test.

It was an incredibly smooth and fast process that was treated very respectfully given the situation. The email I got reminding me of my test "encouraged" face coverings, and I was pleased not only did all workers but all sitting the test were wearing face coverings.

Just wanted to share my experience with you all and wish you the best of luck! I hope you've all been able to reschedule or that your rescheduled tests have gone or do go ahead. Stay safe everyone!

Jspay21 did you have to bring something to prove yo ur address? My test is booked for 18 July and I can’t find anything in the documentation they have me saying I have to bring anything to prove my address, but I remember people stressing about it here and it is in my test book.

Congrats on passing!!

Hi Jackie,
No I didn't need any proof of address, just the ID I registered with (my biometric permit in my case).
It was very fast and smooth, they looked at my bio permit when I walked in, then had me turn off my phone and put everything else in a locker right away (but I had to hold on to my permit throughout). They then sent me to a room where they checked my permit again and took my photo and asked a few questions (what sort of visa I'm applying for, my birthday, etc), then sent me to the room where they do the computer testing- where they also checked my ID.

I didn't even have to show my email confirmation (which I had at the ready). They had a roster at the ready that they just ticked my name off of.

I just read through my confirmation emails again and see nothing about proof of address.

Admittedly I brought my passport just incase, so if you are worried, bring a proof of address along. Worse comes to worse it will just stay in your bag which goes in a locked locker.

Hope that helps!

ADDITION-
Out of curiosity I just had a look in my textbook and you're right, it does say you need proof of address!
I solely went off of the emails I was sent when my test was confirmed, and then you'll get another email a day or two before to remind you of your test. In the email there is a massive heading that says "What you must bring to your test" and the ONLY thing it says is "the photo ID you registered with" and then it tells me what ID I used.

I totally understand your confusion now. All I can say is that I did not bring a proof of address, and I was not asked for one.

I hope someone else who has recently taken the test can chime in and tell you their experience.

What a coincidence, I took mine in Hounslow as well.  You forgot to mention how over the top they were about cheating.  Pulling up my shirtsleeves, trouser legs, then a metal detector and even turning my pockets inside out.  Too bad it wasn't lunchtime when I finished as there was a really nice looking dosa restaurant just across the road.

I took it in Hounslow as well.  Surprised I didn’t have to lift my shirt and show them my baby bump was actually belly.
