Tuesday 😬 but live up North so could only do an appointment on Monday. It is looking very unlikely this is going to be possible ....

Probably already considered this but is trying for it at the Edinburgh consulate an option?

https://uk.usembassy.gov/embassy-consulates/edinburgh/us-citizen-services/

It says if travelling within 4 weeks to email here:
Edinburgh-Info@state.gov

In pre-covid days, this is where we went to renew ours, I live in Liverpool and wasn't an issue not a Scotland resident.

Again, apologies if already tried this route. I feel your pain, my daughter's expires in October and feels unlikely we'll get it renewed anytime soon.

You do NOT get to pick your appointment at the embassy for an emergency.  It's "be here at 8am tomorrow" kind of a thing....

I'd follow up the email with your flight information and hopefully they'll contact you today with an appointment.

Thanks, have emailed Edinburgh to see, fly from London on Tuesday though so will be a push logistically if they can .... I have emailed flight details and evidence of the urgent need to travel again - so I guess I will see if I hear today. But of I don't I am not sure it is going to be possible  :( If they let me know on Monday we will be in Northern England and won't have booked the Covid tests etc...

I have thought to go to Edinburgh instead of London before, I can imagine it is far calmer!

When did you first email?  If you emailed before 5 days prior to travel, they will have likely ignored it.  If you did send in the window, have you checked your junk email?  They usually respond the next working day with a questionnaire.
