Becoming Disabled while UK Resident

I've tried searching, but I couldn't find anything about it. Obviously while on a spousal visa you aren't eligible for any benefits. But as a US citizen who paid taxes for 20 years I did earn enough credits for social security disability. Are you able to apply for disability in the US while resident in the UK?

I haven't been able to work in over a year and I'm currently going through some scary stuff. I don't know when I'll be able to work, every time I think I can start searching I have a bad crash. It's really straining things to have zero income while everything is getting more expensive.

Thanks Tami, much appreciated! Gathering the evidence may be difficult, but at least it is an option depending on the outcome of this month's appointments and scans.

No idea about claiming US social security disability, but wanted to say that I'm sorry you're going through all this.  *hugs*
