Minimum Income Requirement: Advice Needed! :)
« on: August 18, 2021, 05:36:23 PM »
Hi all,

Hoping to get some specific help with my wife’s spousal visa application to the UK.

We are going the ‘savings route’ to satisfy the Minimum Income Requirement, and have got together the (2.5*£18,600+£16,000=) £62,500. However, this is spread across 4 accounts, both in the UK and US. This is a UK (Barclays) checking and savings accounts, an ISA in the UK, and a US (Bank of America) savings account.

1. Will this be ok for our application?

Additionally, I (male, UK citizen) was only added on to the Bank of America account this year.

2. We’re assuming that the 6 months that we need to show the savings from, would start from when I was added to this account. Is this correct?

Hope somebody can help us out!! Thanks!  :) :D

Yes, that’s fine, however, you will need to provide 6 FULL months of bank statements from every single account that the money is in.

No, you should just be able to provide the most recent 6 months before you apply.

As long as either one or both of you has been named on the account for the entire length of time, and no one else has been named on the account in that time, you should be fine.

The requirement is that the bank statements must be in the name of:
- the applicant
- the sponsor
- both the applicant and the sponsor jointly

The savings can be in your name, her name or in your joint names but not that of another person. When you say your name was added, was it to an account which was previously just in her name? If so, that's fine.

Is it a cash ISA?

You take the lowest value of each of the accounts over the 6 months immediately prior to your application and add those amounts.
The value of the US account is calculated using the Oanda spot rate at closing on the date you apply so make sure you have a bit of a buffer.

Thanks, both! That's very reassuring  :)

Yup, it's a cash ISA!
