Fiance Visa (Proof of Relationship and Questions)
« on: November 10, 2021, 11:41:01 AM »
Apologies in advance for so many questions. My fiance and I want to make sure we don't make any mistakes that would delay approval of Fiance Visa.

Our relationship started through online chat, messages, and video chats. We're both in our early forties and have been wanting to get married over a year but the pandemic got in the way.

We have Discord private messages and  WhatsApp as proof of our relationship. Would they be permissable?

Covid 19 has prevented us from traveling. I wasn't able to travel due to being hospitalized with Covid and then requiring oxygen therapy at home. Plus the lockdowns weren't allowing travel either. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take pictures together. But we have met each other's families through video chat. Would the messages and letters of support providing our relationship is genuine be enough?

Also, what does the biometric appointment entail?

For submitting the application and documentation, what would be the best way to send the application packet? Through mail or through FedEx/DHL?

Thank you so very much for any guidance you can provide.

It’s not clear from your post but have you met in person?

WhatsApp messages are fine.

No one has mentioned using Discord messages before, but I assume they would be okay as well.

Have ever you met in person?

One of the requirements of the fiancé visa is that you MUST have met at least one time in person… and you need photographic evidence of it (a photo of the two of you together).

This is to make sure it is not a forced or sham marriage.

If you cannot prove you have met in person one time, unfortunately, your visa will be refused.

Also, what does the biometric appointment entail?

Biometrics is a 5-minute appointment to take your fingerprints and photo. That’s it.

Biometrics are taken by US immigration on behalf of UKVI. They have nothing to do with your application and do not care what visa you are applying for - it’s just an admin exercise for them.

So the appointment will go something like:
- you show up
- they check your passport (for ID) and scan the barcode on your appointment confirmation sheet
- they take your fingerprints and photo
- you go home

You can purchase either return or round trip UPS shipping labels on the VFS Global website when you book biometrics. They are $45 for just the return shipping or $75 for round-trip.

If you just purchase the return shipping I would send the package by UPS yourself as well.

UKVI will not return anything using FedEx so always go with UPS for the return shipping.

Just realised I forgot to answer this part.

Whether you have met each other’s families or not is irrelevant and has no bearing on the visa application.

They cannot consider any message or letters of support from family members, so you should not provide any. They will not even be looked at.

The only letter that can be considered is the mandatory letter of support from your fiancé detailing how you meet each requirement of the visa (sponsorship eligibility, financial requirement, accommodation, short factual relationship history).

For the relationship evidence you need:
- 1 photo of you and your fiancé together proving you have met one time
- boarding passes/e-tickets showing you have travelled to see each other (even if it’s only the 1 trip to meet in person)
- any physical letters/cards you and your fiancé have mailed each other
- a selection of screenshots (no more than 3 pages per communication type) of the following from the entire length of your relationship:
  - video call logs
  - WhatsApp messages
  - Discord chat logs
    Etc.
For the message and chat logs, no actual message or chat content should be included, just a list of names, dates and times… so you just screenshot, paste into Word and crop out the actual message part, leaving the name and date/time.

Plus you also need evidence of plans to marry in the U.K., such as an email chain with the church or registry office enquiring about possible ceremony dates.

Thank you so very much for the detailed response. There's so much information online it can become overwhelming. So grateful for this forum. Now we know how to proceed. Hopefully the process of approval isn't too long.
