About to submit our application online, and I see that in the section about supporting documents it requires a proof of citizenship for my wife, such as a passport. Below that it also states that if passports are required, you must bring the originals to your appointment. The problem is that my wife is in the UK and I don't have her passport here in the US with me (I just have a scanned copy). Any suggestions about what to do? Do I actually need to bring her passport to the appointment, or only my own? If I do have to bring proof of her citizenship, would a birth certificate work instead of the passport (since it will be better for her to mail that to me than mailing her passport overseas)? Thank you

Just ignore that.

You don’t need to take her passport to the appointment - you just need to upload a scanned copy of the photo page of her passport to the VFS global website.

For the biometrics appointment, all you need to take with you is:
- your US passport (for ID)
- your biometrics appointment confirmation sheet with the barcode on it

When you get to the appointment, they will check your passport, scan the barcode on the appointment sheet, take your fingerprints and photo and send you home. That’s it.

Biometrics in the US are done by US immigration on behalf of UKVI… they have nothing to do with your application and don’t care what visa you are applying for. They are just there to provide a service.

Just wanted to ask one more thing regarding the supporting documents: on the application it asked if I had received any medical care in the UK, and only required details of the most recent instance. On the required supporting documents checklist, it asks for proof of payment for "any treatment you have already had in the UK". Do they want proof of everything, or just that one instance that I was asked to describe on the application?

They want proof that all treatment was paid for so send evidence for each occurrence. Outstanding NHS debt can lead to refusal of the visa.

In my case, none of the treatment I received was via the NHS. I had a couple of things done at private clinics/hospitals (a physical exam for a visa, and travel vaccinations) and more recently I had to pay for a number of Covid tests during my visits to the UK. Do they need receipts for this kind of thing, or just NHS service?

Really sorry to post this question again, but my appointment's coming up on Monday and I just want to make sure I have all my documents in order. As always, thanks so much for any help/advice you guys can offer

You only need to include any NHS treatment you received, because they need to make sure you have paid for it and that you haven’t received any free NHS treatment that you shouldn’t have.

If you have any outstanding NHS debt of £500 or more, it’s an automatic visa refusal.
