Sponsor Passport Damage

Hello, I’m going to be switching from the fiance visa to the flr m soon and we realized my fiancé’s passport has the very last page missing and know we need to scan every single page on both our passports. I want him to get a new one and book a late biometrics appointment as to avoid it not being accepted as it currently is. Should i scan his passport as is or wait and see if it takes a long time to get a biometrics appointment and hopefully get his new passport beforehand to be able to upload it? I’m very stressed out and not sure what the best thing to do is! Am I able to choose a biometrics date far ahead in the future to ensure he gets a new passport?

My first instinct would be that he doesn't need to apply for a new passport, since the missing last page does not affect the personal details on his passport. The most important thing is that you can provide the biometric photo page details of his passport to show that he is a British citizen, and therefore is qualified to be your sponsor.

So, if you don't have long until your fiance visa expires, my first thought would be to do the following:

- scan all the pages of his damaged passport that you have
and
- write a letter of explanation for why the last page is missing

Having said that, if he does apply for a new passport, you would just write an explanation in a cover letter for why the passport number is different to the one on the application form and provide the new passport details in the letter.

- his full, long-form birth certificate
AND
- at least one other formal document as evidence of ordinary residence in the UK for the last three years
AND
- if he was born after Jan 1st 1983, he must also provide evidence of the nationality or immigration status of his parents at the time of his birth

So, to be honest, it's much easier to just provide a passport:
- either the damaged passport with an explanation of the damage
or
- a new passport (with an explanation of a different passport number if the application has the old passport details on it).

I recently applied for a new UK passport in early October 2021. Although the website said it could take 5 weeks, I received my new passport approval 4 days of mailing the old one and received it in the post 4 days after that.

The website now says 6 weeks though, so I'm not sure how the processing times are going at the moment.

Everything has to be scanned, including the letter, so there's no point including a photocopy, since they will already have a copy of the passport.

You would just need to write a short explanation for the missing page and upload it - you could upload it in the same section as his passport (Proof of Identity/Travel History), so they see both documents together.

Sorry I messed up on my reply! I meant would it be okay to include the scan his current passport along with a photocopy of his birth certificate just to be on the safe side? I could still include an explanation for both in the cover letter. Sorry for the typo.

EDIT: Would his P60’s from 2019 onward count as evidence for his residency of the last 3 years? Is there anywhere I else I can find online what we could use as an alternative to the passport? Im just trying to be on the safe side when applying!

I wouldn't bother, unless you're going to provide all the other documents to support the birth certificate as well... because a birth certificate alone is not considered acceptable evidence of UK citizenship - hence the reason they ask for the other documents too.

Could be a number of things - you have to show he has been living in the UK for the last 3 years. So, you would need things like job contract, payslips, bank statements, council tax statements, utility bills, tenancy agreements etc.

I wouldn't bother, unless you're going to provide all the other documents to support the birth certificate as well... because a birth certificate alone is not considered acceptable evidence of UK citizenship - hence the reason they ask for the other documents too.

If I do the first option only should I say he doesn’t have a valid passport in the application? And if I do option 3 would his parent’s passport be enough proof as they were born in the UK?
