Filing US taxes for my UK employment
« on: March 20, 2022, 10:56:48 AM »
Hi all. I keep putting off doing my taxes, because I'm not sure where to begin. I didn't file taxes last year, as I didn't work in 2020. However, I did work 3 different temp jobs in 2021 for a total of about 11 weeks. I am wondering how I file them since obviously I don't have W-2s? Thank you in advance.

What my son does is keep a record of his income from his job(s) then files using FEIE (form 2555) to exclude the income. You can exclude approximately $107k.

Try Googling “foreign earned income exclusion” to learn more about it. The instructions for completing the form are here

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i2555.pdf

When my son does his taxes with TurboTax it walks him through it and the end result is income shown on the 1040 as if he had an actual W2 and a form 2555 that excludes it all.
