US Taxes and UK Self Employed income? Help!
« on: May 24, 2022, 10:14:35 PM »
Hi, So I'm sitting down doing my taxes using the Turbo Tax software. Last year (August 2021) I started doing Deliveroo and Uber Eats for extra money as I was made redundant from my job. However, I am unable to get my self employed income into any sort of US tax deduction. In fact, I read that the tax treaties between the UK and the US don't include self employed income?

Does that mean I have to pay US income tax on money I earned in the UK and the $100,000 exemption doesn't apply? That seems horrendous if true and would mess up my life. Any thoughts? Please tell me I'm wrong! Thanks all.

So, I'm not sure what I did but I somehow got the Turbo Tax system to except my information. I hate US taxes, don't understand it and don't care to know.
But my taxes are done now. Phew.

Well done. I was going to suggest using foreign tax credits to zero out your US taxes but it sounds like you managed to get TT to use the FEIE.
