Financial requirements for citizenship

Hi, are there financial requirements for citizenship?

I was wondering if you can use savings? and if so how much do you need?

I think i read somewhere if you are self employed or unemployed you need to show some sort of financial requirement. So I was just curious.

No, there are not. 

There are almost no requirements for citizenship compared to the previous visas.

The employment/self-employment part is for the Good Character Requirement, so they can check that you have been paying your taxes.

Pretty much the only requirements (if married to a U.K. citizen) are:
General
- you are over 18
- you hold ILR
- you have passed the Life in the UK test
Residency
- you were in the UK exactly 3 years prior to your citizenship application date
- you have not been outside the UK for more than 270 days in the last 3 years (no more than 90 days in the final 12 months)
Good Character
- you have no unspent convictions
- you have been paying your taxes if working

And pretty much the only documents you need are:
- applicant’s passport and BRP
- spouse’s UK passport
- marriage certificate (if married to a U.K. citizen)
- Life in the U.K. test reference number
- 2 referee forms
- if self-employed, your tax returns to show tax paid

My husband is at biometrics now for ILR, so we should have a decision by tomorrow at the latest.

If all approved, we want to apply for citizenship. I have been told theres no financial requirements, I assume we might have to state if he is full time/permanent employed. (Which he is, and will be at the time of the citizenship application)

so my question is, at the time he will still be full time employed, however after submitting application for citizenship. he is considering giving up his full time job and exploring other things/taking a break from work for a few months or up to a year. (but has been employed and paying taxes for the whole 5 years in UK etc.. )

will this have any baring on the decision for citizenship? or will they base it on the information that was correct and true on the date it was submitted?

as obviously, for example, some people could lose their full time job after applying or something...

So just wondering if he gives up his job after applying.. could this impact him negatively? or change the decision, as we are in just in a position for him to not work anymore, and would like to take a break from it after applying for citizenship.

There is no requirement to be employed either. Tell him to enjoy his break!

You're really smart to be pushing on with this now. I know another application is the last thing anyone wants after ILR but after this you really are done!

As soon as you have the ILR BRP you can apply.

Yes, it seems wise to just get it all over and done with asap... had enough of visa applications between the UK and USA over the years. ha ha
