Citizenship
« on: August 19, 2022, 08:30:55 PM »
Hi all,

I just got confirmation for my ILR yesterday, and should have my new BRP shortly! I'm ready to apply for citizenship asap, but wanted to check if I could leave the country while my application is being processed? I know you can't with other applications, so just want to make sure we are doing it at the right time. No way I'm missing my September holiday!

Thank you for a the advice, and in advance for your responses!

As far as I am aware, yes. (but hopefully can get some confirmation of this from others?)

Immigration and citizenship are different kettles of fish. When you have ILR, you are free from immigration restrictions, and your immigration path is finished. Citizenship is a totally separate thing, so not affected by travel outside the country while an application is in process.

I’m just in middle of this part of this process too.Yes you can travel, just need your ILR card upon return to uk ! The only consideration comes when you get approved, go to your citizenship ceremony and have to hand in your card…then apply for a passport. That wait is when you have no passport and no card.
Application: April 5 2017
Biometrics: April 13 2017
Received: April 19 2017
Decision email: June 6 2017

Biometrics done - 13 January 2020
Approved for FLR(m)!  Feb 2020

ILR Applied Super Priority - 12 July 2022
Biometrics (got a cancellation!) -13 July 2022
