Naturalisation Application - Parental citizenship
« on: May 21, 2023, 11:47:47 AM »
Hello, I'm completing the naturalisation application now. The form asks for my parents' nationality. My parent was born in the US to a British mother prior to when British citizenship was automatically extended to children of British mothers. This was changed in the 80s but my parent didn't apply for British citizenship until about 6 years ago.

The naturalisation application asks for your parent's nationality, which is USA. But it also asks "Have they always had the same nationality?" I guess the answer is no, although I don't know if nationality and citizenship are equivalent? When I clicked no, it asks what their nationality was when I was born, but my parent didn't have British citizenship officially at that point. So I'm not sure whether to just leave it so my parent only have their US nationality recognised?

Thanks for any guidance.
