Citizenship Timeline - Entering 8th Month
« on: June 27, 2023, 10:51:34 AM »
Hi everyone, I submitted my citizenship application at the end of October and am still awaiting a decision. My case is a little complicated (extended absences while taking care of my father during Covid), and I ended up getting a solicitor to help (one recommended here).

Does anyone know if there is a way to call or email just to make sure that they have the application and that it is in process?

I just want to ensure that we have not missed a communication or that something technically went wrong, and we’re just sitting around waiting on them while they are simultaneously waiting on us.

Thank you so much; that makes me feel a lot better. I'm ok with it taking as long as it takes, just super uncomfortable with not really knowing if something was missed.

It doesn't help that I have UKVI PTSD because my very first fiance visa was denied for not giving them enough information.

I’m taking the view that they will ask if they need more information - and they would have asked by now!

I don’t think there is much we can do but try and forget about it and just let it happen.

Comparing our timeline to others is just upsetting and constantly checking emails just leaves us frustrated.

Being positive - Indefinite Leave to Remain is a good thing to have.  We’ve reached the end of the road so now we can just relax and sit back and wait for citizenship.

FYI, not sure if you did in-person biometrics or used the app, but my solicitor just got back with me, and it turns out UKVI WAS needing something from me. Here is what she said:

"finally received correspondence from the Home Office and they are requesting that you attend an appointment to provide your biometrics. I understand from a colleague that she was informed that the Home Office are experiencing technical difficulties with the IDV app that you used previously."

So frustrating.

It may be worth contacting your MP. I have seen cases where there was a computer error causing extra delays, and as soon as it was followed up the application was processed within days. They don't seem to have monitoring reports to catch aging applications.

At 6 months we received a standard email to say they were sorry for the delay which had been caused by an IT glitch and they would contact us when the process was complete.

At 8 months we contacted our MP.  The MP contacted the powers that be and forwarded their reply to us.  Basically it said don’t call us, we’ll call you.  The response to the MP said that processing involved lots of different agencies and that they required responses from them and that was causing was a delay.

It is 9 months today.

Our application was straight forward.  My US husband contributes to the community volunteering  as a DJ on local radio, owns a house, is part of a choir that sings to raise money for charity, has applied to do voluntary work with RAF cadets, pays his taxes, has not overstayed any visa, has no criminal record and is in his mid 60s.

To say it is frustrating is an understatement.

I do think it is worth contacting your MP - just in case it jogs them into doing something.  Plus it gives you a bit of a paper trail.

When (I am being positive) we hear something I will let everyone know.  Please let us know how your application goes.

Based on heytimes most recent comment (I had missed it when typing mine, unsure how), it sounds like they're working through whatever issue it was with the IDV App. When I used that app for FLR(M) during the pandemic it took 8 months and an MP contact to be processed. Their technology is just not good enough. I'd hate to know what they spent on the system! I won't be applying for citizenship for quite a while, the trauma of ILR has been significant.

Yipppeeeeeee!!!  Did you hear me screaming?

At last!!!

Today the approval email arrived!!   It has been over 9 months since biometrics!

Hubby is going over to the States next week to see his elderly mother so the ceremony will have to take place after he returns in mid August.

Can’t believe it!  I thought it would never come!

Well, my in-person biometrics appointment is tomorrow.

So, naturally, I got my approval email today! I'm a citizen(almost). I guess that in-person biometrics wasn't that important after all!
