Eden Project.
« on: January 17, 2005, 04:02:18 PM »
Has anyone been to the Eden Project in Cornwall?  Was it cool?

My husband suggested going there over Easter bank holiday but i fear it may be too cold in Cornwall to do that.

I think i'd rather go in the spring/summer for a weekend.

Went there feeling "plants are boring" ... but had to eat my words.   Yes, it was cool.

The indoors are hot and temparate, so you won't get cold; you may feel a bit chilly outdoors in late March, but Cornwall is typically one of the less severe counties and Eden is sheltered within an old clay pit.

Haven't been. Dying to go as well. Cornwall can be quite temperate in early spring. Just depends upon the lovely UK weather. But, if you opt to go in late spring/summer. Be seriously prepared to fight the crowds.

You could meet me and vnice as well if you come down this way!!

Nope, just invest in one of those B&B guides for the UK (or selected region). I find them well worth it.

 :)

We stood in line to go in, when it first opened to the public :)  At that time,, the plants were just,, well,, planted,,, so everything was quite small. I would love to see it now, years later, to see how things have grown.  It was freaking hot in there, is all I can remember. Really hot.

Amy, we went on a road trip thru Cornwall for our Honeymoon, and that was in mid January. It's was not very cold at all. Remember, that down South, we have the milder weather thanks to the Gulf Stream, so it shouldn't be very cold at all during Easter Break :)

Amiloo... Eden is lovely and there are so many things near by to see and tons of hidden beaches and lovely homes and well it's just lovely.  Easter should be just in time for the spring bulbs.  They have about a million of them planted.  The biomes are also very cool.  We went and I can email you the link to the pics.  Just pm your email.   When we went they were offering a season of gifts so we have a free year long meembership to Eden. The weather in the SW is some of the mildest in the UK and you will get some nice and some ugly days in April.

There is a lovely village outside of Plymouth called Holbeton that is nice they have a well rated Inn called the Mildmay Colours http://www.mildmay-colours.co.uk/  but you'd need to book early. Nearby is Mothecombe beach which while it will bo too cold to swim is an isolated cove open only on certain days to the public.  Bigbury-on-Sea is nice too and located on it is one of the nicest Hotels.  It gets cut off during high tide but they have this odd machine that takes you across for 50 p.  http://www.burghisland.com/  Okay so these places are in Devon, but if you drive or rent a car it works out well.

Also in Devon and a stones throw from Cornwall are Carswell Farms.  If you want more of the out in the country life with rented cottages. http://www.carswellcottages.com/

The Eden Project is FABULOUS!!! I'm a sucker for botanical gardens, anyway, but this one totally blew me away. Unlike any other! My boyfriend lives fairly near there so I've become a regular visitor. After you go once and pay full admission, you can pay £5 extra for an Eden Project Passport -- which entitles you free admission for a year. I love it!
