Travel without BRP? Timeline for BRPs?
« on: November 13, 2023, 08:51:30 PM »
 Hello!

I got my ILR approval today  :D  just 6hrs after my biometrics using super priority.

I now need to wait for my new BRP to arrive by mail. however there is a chance that I will need to travel out of the UK before it comes in.  >:(

My current BRP is in date until the day after I’m due to return.

I’m considering travelling out of the UK and having a friend mail me my new BRP while I’m away so I can use it to reenter the UK. I haven’t ever needed to show my BRP to leave the UK.

Has anyone done this? How does this plan sound to you?

Anyone have a timeline on when BRP gets back on super priority?

Your current BRP became invalid as soon as your ILR was approved (as you now have ILR and you no longer hold FLR). This means you cannot use it to travel anymore.

In theory, this would work, but it could be risky as you’d need to make sure that your friend can get the BRP card to get to you in time for you to return to the UK…. And they should only use a courier like UPS/FedEx/DHL to send important visa documents because Royal Mail/ParcelForce are not reliable for important documents and the BRP card may never arrive.

It can take up to 10 days, but I believe most people get theirs within 4 days or so - you could well get it by the end of this week.

Thank you for the really helpful reply.

Thankfully, my card will arrive tomorrow (48 hrs after my approval) and I won’t have to face this choice!

Thanks!
