What is US/UK position on holding three passports?
« on: November 20, 2023, 05:59:41 PM »
Hi there

My husband has just applied for ILR, and the aim is to then go for UK citizenship.  He already holds both a US passport and a Mexican passport.

Does anyone know if he is legally able to obtain a UK passport? Or would he have to give up his US or Mexican passport to do so?

thanks!

The UK has no problem with multiple citizenships, the US only officially recognises US citizenship but turns a blind eye to the others. Because of that you have to enter and leave the US on the US passport.
I don't know how Mexico feels about it though.

Whaaaaaaa?????? I always thought that the USA restricted citizenships to 2. If not, thats awwwwesome. Opens up the door for my husband and I to possibly escape to Cyprus where his family is from some day lol. Woohooo
