ILR (finally!) - My questions & checklist thread

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well with all of you. Been a crazy difficult couple of years (injury, illness, career change, loss of pets). Unbelievably to me, it's time to apply for my ILR. It's at the 11th hour (BRP expires 2nd January 2024) as I had to dig up the funds for the application. So, I'm working on the documentation now. Wouldn't mind your help again please. Maybe once I get this ILR application done, I'll feel more upbeat!


A few questions:

1) Should I go ahead and start my application now? I am applying standard/non-priority. I am still gathering my documentation but have most things ready to go.

2) Will I need to include my stepdaughter's (husband's daughter) information again i.e. passport, birth certificate, proof of address? She lives with her mom.

3) What exactly does the employer letter need to state? I will be using my husband's income as the income source.

4) The 7 months of bank statements should be the ones where my husband's pay cheque is deposited, right?

5) Do I need to include a job contract for my husband? I don't believe they've given him a new/updated one since the previous one which we included on the FLR-M application.

6) Do we have to include all pages of our passports again?

SET(M) form to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK as a partner of a person already settled in the UK.

Proof of Application
- Applicant's passport.
- Signed sponsor's declaration/consent form (part of online application)

Other
- Life in the UK Test code

Residence in the UK
- 6/7 items of mail in each name dated every 5 months going back 2.5 years (from at least 3 different sources). Either named together or within the same calendar month.
- Official Copy of Title Deed (house is owned)
- Latest council tax bill.
- A letter dated in the last 3 months confirming each child's address (i.e. from GP or school) NOT SURE IF I NEEED THIS FOR STEPDAUGHTER

Finances
- 7 months of payslips.
- 7 months of bank statements.
- Employer letter.
Optional but recommended:
- Job contract.
- Latest P60.

Proof of Identity / Travel History
- Applicant's BRP card.
- Sponsor's UK passport.
- Marriage certificate.
- Any divorce decrees

If you have any children under 18 living in the UK:
NOT SURE IF I NEED THIS FOR STEPDAUGHTER
- Each child's passport (if you have any children under 18 living in the UK)
- Each child's birth certificate (if you have any children under 18 living in the UK


Am I missing anything? I'm sure I will have left something out. LOL

You can start your application, just don’t submit until you are ready.
The employer letter needs to be exactly the same as your last visa.
The bank statements should match the bank account where they are deposited.
Just include the contract you did last time.
And finally, include all pages of your passport and his. Hopefully an expert will advise on your step daughter’s information.

Yes. You can start on https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-to-settle-in-the-uk-form-setm/apply-online-form-setm now and go back and forth on all sections, and then only Submit at the end when you're happy to proceed. Obviously submit before BRP expires.

Pass on this.

Employer name (and address), Husband's name, salary, role and start date or how long he's been employed to show he's been on the salary for at least 6 months. It's assumed he's full time employed (my employer letter didn't say that).

No. I found my initial physical contract and had it as backup in case we had any questions but it was never needed.

6) Do we have to include all pages of our passports again?

Yes. All pages.

We had to quote the Life in the UK certificate number when we applied. I assume you have one by now if your BRP expires on 2nd January.

Residence in the UK

Yes, all very helpful. Thank you! I did my Life in the UK test a few weeks ago so I have the URN to put on my application.

Regarding the info for my stepdaughter, I was quite surprised that they asked for it when I did my FLR. I feel like it wasn't really relevant. She lives with her mom but we have here with us every other weekend. Yes, my husband obviously has a financial responsibility for her but it didn't seem that the questions on the application pertained to that. I thought that any questions about children would be for those who are bringing children with them on a visa or if we had children of our own together. Well, we'll see if it comes up in this application again - hopefully not! Thanks again!

On the SET(M) application, there's a section "Your Home Office Reference Number" which asks:
"Do you have any Home Office reference numbers?
If you have previously made an application to remain in the UK, you can find a reference number on letters from the Home Office, called 'Our Ref' or 'Case ID'. If not known, select 'No'."

Are they meaning reference numbers from my entry visa application and my FLR application?
