UK citizen returning to UK on US passport without right of abode endorsement?

Hi!

I just attended my citizenship ceremony today and got my citizenship certificate. Great news, very pleased, etc., until I read this bit in the information leaflet they give you:

"If, as a British citizen, you wished to travel on a non-British passport it must be endorsed to show that you have right of abode. Otherwise, you might experience difficulty proving your right to be re-admitted to the United Kingdom."

I'm traveling back to America tomorrow! 

Gov.uk says you need a certificate of entitlement to show your right of abode. That costs £550 and takes up to three weeks.

My biometric permit also has to be returned within 5 working days, and I'll be putting that in the post today, so I won't be able use that to show I had indefinite leave to remain.

I am hoping that I can just take my certificate of naturalization with me to show when I come back to the UK, and that I might just have to wait a bit in the line at the airport while they figure it out, but I am nervous they might not let me back in at all.

"Travelling to and from the UK after naturalising
Once you have completed the naturalisation process, you will no longer be able to enter
the UK using your BRP or digital status, or by presenting your citizenship certificate at the
UK border."

What can I do?

Hi, I know some have used their certificate to get back in….with questions. I’m not sure if I would try it, but hopefully one of the experts here can help.

My anecdotal evidence:  My wife and I twice travelled out of the UK and back on our US/French passports along with our certificates.  No UK passports, no right of abode or anything.   The border guards did not care at all.  They were happy we had become UK citizens and told us it was no problem.    Hope the same thing works out for you!
