baby's first passport..-
« on: January 14, 2005, 04:54:05 PM »
we are going to london to register Calvin's birth and to apply for his first passport on january 24th. i was reading over .pdf of the passport application file and came across this part-

"If You Claim Citizenship Through Birth Abroad to One U.S. Citizen Parent: Submit a Consular Report of Birth (Form FS-240),
Certification of Birth (Form DS-1350 or FS-545), or your foreign birth certificate, proof of citizenship of your parent, and an affidavit
showing all of your U.S. citizen parent's periods and places of residence/physical presence in the United States and abroad before your birth."

also on the page where the information is for registering the birth (list of documents needed, etc) -
this is stated:

"In addition to the documents listed above, you may be required to provide proof of your physical presence in the U.S. before the child's birth. Please submit old passports, if available, as evidence. If unavailable, other evidence, such as school transcripts or employment records, may be accepted."

i was wondering if anyone else here who has applied for their babys or childs first passport been asked to supply such a form (or 'affidavit') or other evidence.

thanks:)

I worried about that as well, and they didn't ask me about it or care. They saw, by looking at my fiancee visa & flr visa which were both in my passport, exactly how long I had been in the country, and just  believed me that I was in the US before that. Just in case I brought old US bank statements, but honestly I didn't have much else on me to proove my whereabouts for the last 27 years. :) I brought my birth certificate in  as well.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Hi,

I just had my passport with me, left my BC at home, but wasn't asked for it.  It was all pretty quick and painless, just make sure you follow the guidelines for Calvin's photo.  They were emphatic about that one in Edinburgh.

hiya ..thanks for writing back :)

i hope it goes quick... i know how irritable (& loud) Calvin can get sometimes.!     i am hoping to find someplace this week to get his picture taken, but most places i have called only do photos to british passport size specifications and not US. i know there is a place right by the embassy that takes US passport photos, but i dont want to risk something going wrong there and then having no photo :(

thanks again...

There are two places that take passport photos really close to the embassy.  I had my kids' taken before the appointment with no waiting and it took about 15 min.   If you can't find anything beforehand don't be too worried about it when you get there.

I went to the embassy on Wednesday to get permanent passports for my kids and had to have pics retaken.  I went to Gould Pharmacy and it is really close and it only costs a fiver for 2 pics.  Cheaper than the place on Oxford St. and you don't have to go up loads of stairs.
