Low carb food finds
« on: January 25, 2005, 03:47:29 PM »
I wanted to start a thread for us low carbers shopping around for good, low carb food without paying ridiculous, over inflated prices. Please post any good low carb food finds here!

I bought a few things from Tesco online. I got two pizzas that were 9carb each. It was a pack of 2 for £1.99. Had one today and was surprised it didnt taste like cardboard. Would recommend!
Also found at Tesco some tortilla's. I believe they are just 2c each and the price was £1.99 for a pack of I think 10. I havent tried them yet but I think it could be a good sub for bread. I can make tuna roll-ups or whatever.
Also bought lemon meringue pie form Tesco. Havent tried it. 9c each slice..pack of two
The Atkins choc bars are really nice. Lest than £1 each and you wouldnt ever know they were low carb. I also always get a few Kit Kat and Rollos.
Ordered some pasta from the net. Overpriced but curious how it tastes. I should be getting it tomorrow hopefully.

Boots has a small range of Atkins stuff including choc bars. The Endulge line of chocolate tastes like real choc. They are running a special, buy any three atkins products, get the cheaper one free. This also includes the vitamin supplements.

Has anyone tried the Atkins breafast bars? They come in choc chip, apple crisp and strawberry. Well I usually get the choc chip ones but two weeks ago Tesco had them on sale 2 boxes for £7 so I tried the Apple and the strawberry. The apple was really SO BAD! I can usually eat anything but I had to spit this out it was so bad. The strawberry was better but wouldnt buy them again. The choc chip ones are the best.
I saw on Ebay a few people are selling low carb stuff but after shopping around online I dont see the Ebayers prices any cheaper than the reg low carb food stores.

Hi! Though I'm no longer on LowCarb, I rummaged through my bookmarked links re all low carb related stuff. Here, I've compiled a list of UK online stores that sell LC products (I checked them and all links are working):

Carblife
Sugarlite
Low Carb Megastore (free shipping on orders over £75.00)
Store Locator for Atkins Products in the UK
Feeling OK

Let me know if you want more links of LC related sites ... I've got loads!

Thanks Teutonica. I have used a few of those places. Just got my order from Lowcarbmegastore.com today. Very fast shipping. I only ordered on Monday night.

Pebbles & Cicero,

Thanks for posting this, very helpful info, I have found it really hard going trying to cut out carbs altogether (seemed easier than all the counting and I don't do pasta, it's just bread that's my problem) but I forgot about options like wraps :) and useful about lemon meringue pie - I wouldn't have even picked it up assuming I couldn't have it.

I am keen to try the bars too and hate wasting lots of money on these things ( as I have found my shopping bill has risen significantly).

Thanks so much, this is the kind of help I was looking for when I first joined the low carb thread :)

Pebbles, what is the brand name on the tortillas? I've been looking for low carb tortillas since I got here in September. I'm too tight fisted to order the Mama Lupe tortillas they have for sale at the LowCarbMegaStore, even though that's the brand I ate in the states.

Oooo, you got the Mama Lupe ones from the LowCarb store? *Cries* They are so good. Think I may have to break down and order some anyway. Also, let me know how the low carb pasta tastes. I have been thinking about getting some of that.

Well I got the pasta today and it looks awful. Its brown :P
Also got some Atkins choc cake mix for £1.75 because it had to be used by the end of the month. Made it tonight. Not too bad with coffee...a bit dry. Ill try the tortillas tomorrow!
