Edinburgh wedding help
« on: February 05, 2005, 02:50:07 PM »
If all goes well with the visa, fiance and I will be getting married at the Edinburgh registry office on March 10.  Does anyone have any suggestions of florists for bouquet, hairdresser, and nice restaurant?  We are having the world's smallest wedding- just the two of us.  Fiance is convinced we can pluck two people off the street to act as witnesses (though I have my doubts).  I do want to get my hair done and have a bouquet though.  Anyone ever eat at The Witchery?  We saw it on line and thought it looked very posh for a wedding meal.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

 :)

We got married at the Registry House in Leith.  And yeah, our witnesses were two staff members.  We told them we were eloping and didn't want a/one to know, so they volunteered themselves.  I've only had lunch in The Witchery, which is good b/c they do one for a tenner (need reservations).  Delicious food, but portions are small so you may need extra a la carte items.  Mmm.

The Cheynes chain of salons are a rip off.  What part of town do you need a hairdresser for?  Elliot-Clarke flowers in Trinity does AMAZING flowers!  I always grab a bouquet from there on the way to see MIL.

I feel a bit of relief after reading you grabbed two staff members to have as witnesses!  We really want this to be just about us, and will later have a large party for friends and family (in autumn).

I'm really not sure what part of town we'll be in- we can't decide if we should get a travel inn or b&b for the night before the wedding and then stay somewhere nice like the Bonheim for the wedding night or just go for it and spend two nights at the Bonheim.  We are marrying in the India building in the St. Andrews room.

Thanks for your suggestions. :)

if you can afford it, why not go for 2 nights in the Bonham  (i take it that's the hotel you mean.... i cant think of one called Bonheim).
You could go for a standard room before the wedding, and then have the wedding night in one of the premium /boutique rooms!

(im good at spending other people's money!)  ;)

I think that's what we will end up doing- it is the Bonham and I really like the rooms with the large copper tubs and fireplace.  Since we won't have a proper honeymoon for awhile, we may as well splurge on a fabulous room!!   :D
(p.s. I'm good at spending other people's money too- especially his!)
