Bringing your car into Central London is not worth the hassle.  To get to the embassy, you'll have to pay congestion charges as well as for parking.  I don't know if there's parking at the embassy but if I was coming from far away, I wouldn't bother, even with your baby.

Sweetypeabee would know about parking. She works at the embassy.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

What time of day is your appointment? That will help me with where you should park  :)

I haven't yet booked the appt. we did have one but cancelled as the weather was just awful at the beginning of Jan, I didn't want to drag out the baby,so we are going in summer instead.

thanks again

ukmis,

Perhaps you could take a train down, and catch a cab from the station? Or from a subway station? I don't know London's layout that well, but I know just from the few times I've driven through it, it's a traffic nightmare, and I would imagine, as mentioned, that parking's very expensive.

I would suggest the train and a cab--- if you get a family railcard you have to buy a ticket for your little one but save a lot on the adult tickets and it makes it worthwhile often. You can check the various prices online. Then pay for cab--I think you will find it hassle free and a lot easier than driving!

Also is the trip to the embassy absolutely necessary-- or can things done by post?

I think she's registering the baby's birth, so she needs to go in person.

I would also suggest giving up the idea of driving.  It's just not worth it.

we just went to the embassy this past monday (jan. 24th) to register calvin's birthday and apply for his passport/SS card.. and i did not notice any parking nearby the embassy.  i second (or third..or fourth!) the idea of driving to a train station and going in that way. the embassy is not a far walk from the bond street tube and there is a pharmacy along the way that does US passport pictures if you need them taken..

You guys have been awesome, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions I really appreciate it. Looks like I'll probably do the train as suggested, especially if the embassy is only a short walk away. I wouldn't be stressing only Hope is my first baby and I've never really travelled with her or any other baby for that matter. Thanks again and I'm sure I'll have more questions as the time gets nearer.

Cheers,
Joanne

good luck... if you don't go during rush hour, the trains (usually) aren't too bad :)
if you have any other questions, just ask away =)
