heading to Boston- where to eat?
« on: January 28, 2005, 06:20:55 PM »
We will be traveling to Boston next month, the first time for both of us.  Can anyone point us to good places to eat/drink?? :)

Where in Boston?  If you are in the Cambridge Area, you have to go to the Border Cafe in Harvard Square.  (Amazing Mexican/Cajun) Somerville (Davis Square area) Redbones, best ribs I've ever had (southerners shush :P)  Both are on the Red Line.  Then there is great Sushi in Porter Square which is (between Harvard and Davis) at the Porter exchange building. There is also a great place for burrito's called Anna's Taqueria (OMG!!!!  So good!!!!)

Hmmm, I know Amiloo is good with the Boston Places, Onetiger too!

Good suggestions Stacey!

For a fancy drink, head to the Oak Bar in the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston proper...they usually have a piano player and the atmosphere is wonderful on a cold evening.  Can't make many other suggestions as I tended to hang out in places that would be tough to get to unless you really knew the area well...but if I think of anything else, I'll let you know!

Depends on where you are staying/looking for.

Downtown Boston:
Near downtown crossing, where the big Macys and Filenes (and filenes basement-a MUST VISIT) are, there is Silvertone.  It's a small place underground but has the best mac and cheese you will ever eat.  Ever.  And the prices are cheap.  It's a bar with good food, how they spin it.

Near Fanuiel Hall, King Fish Hall is good.  A Todd English place-his stuff is usually great.  (of note are olives in charlestown as well)

For italian, nothing beats the North End.  I like going to a place that is off Hanover St. (the main tourist drag).  It's called La Summa Restaraunte (spelling!) and it's FAB and good value.  (there are cheaper there.....Mother Anna's is divine as well and less $$ but i highly reccomend La Suma)

And, although it is a chain, you can't beat legal seafoods.  (there are a few in Boston).  Their Clam Chowder is DIVINE!!!!!

For Indian, Saffron on Newbury Street is great.  There is also a place across the street that is nice as well (and i can't remember the name!)

Brookline: Jae's on Beacon Street (there are also ones in the city) are great.  Asian fusion food, but you can get a teryaki steak there that is killer.

For a chill puby ish (ok not really-it's a sports bar but the food ROCKS) go to the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse on Harvard St.

For amazing sushi go to  Fugakyu.  Some serious stuff and SO WORTH THE $$$$$.

And, i have to give a shout out to Anna's Taqueria for a cheap killer burrito.  In brookline and Cambridge.

I could go on all morning about this, but i have to work!!!!!

Please note, if you have the $$$$ to spend, the Capital Grille on Newbury Street is something that is NOT to be missed.  The steaks there are the best i have had anywhere in America....or the world.  Ever.

I would also check out the following website:

www.boston.citysearch.com

It'll give you directions, reviews, etc.

and a big yes to Fugakyu - best darn sushi EVER!

I agree with what Aimiloo said but might I also suggest:

The Grand Chow Chow.  It is a chinesse place on Washington Street.  It is on the edge of Chinatown and very good.

Also near Paul Raveres house is a couple of great bakeries.

Plus when you walk through Fanuiel Hall go upstairs.  They have some nice things to look at regarding the orginal history of the building.

Boston is a small compact city to you can walk to almost everything.  Have fun it is a beautiful city.

And if you like Thai food - try Pho Republique in the South End on Washington St.  You will love the tuna rolls - they are amazing!  plus they make great cosmos!
