From Schenectady to Lancaster
« on: February 07, 2005, 04:57:00 PM »
The information I've learned on this board in the past couple of weeks has been invaluable and I greatly appreciate all the help from everyone.  I have been with my English fiance for a little over two years and we plan to be married on March 10.  I will be submitting my fiancee visa application next week and am quite anxious over it.  I currently live in upstate NY, but have spent 7 months last year in northwestern Lancashire and love it.  I am really looking forward to getting back there and being with my soon to be husband permanently.  I have a degree in social work and will be looking for a job shortly after we get married (if I can ever figure out how to write a CV!)  This is the first forum I have ever joined and so far I have greatly enjoyed it.   :)

Hi Cookie:
I live in Silverdale (just north of Lancaster).  You came to a great part of the country.  Everyone is so nice.  I moved to Preston in 2000 to go to university and then to Silverdale in 2003 (when I married a nice British boy).  I am from southern Maryland originally.  I work at Uni of Central Lancashire and Lancaster University.  I don't post very much but I like reading the boards.  Hope you enjoy the UK as much as I do.  If you get a chance go see a show at the Lancaster Grand theatre.  I am a member of the Footlights Club (we do plays at the Grand).    It is a beautiful historic theatre (3rd oldest in Britain).

Hi- I'll be living in Carnforth actually (I thought people would be more likely to know Lancaster than Carnforth!)  I lived in Galgate last year for 7 months.  I have never been to the Grand theater but I would like to.  It is a nice area and I'm looking forward to moving back permanently.  Maybe we can get together for coffee or something when I arrive.

Welcome!  My undergrad degree is in Social Work and I am graduating with my masters in Social Work in May.  What area of social work are you interested in?  You must be pretty excited with moving and your wedding being around the corner.  Congrats!

I am currently working as a social worker in a long term care facility.  I have also worked with families whose children have cancer.  I have been looking at the Lancashire council website and there seem to be many social work positions making fairly good money.  I prefer working with the elderly, but I am happy to work with any segment of the population, with the exception of probably people with mental health issues (I've never worked in that sector and don't think I'd be very good at it).  Can you tell me the difference between DipSW, CQSW, and CSS?  Thanks!
