Work visa for my mom and dad?
« on: March 01, 2005, 05:09:56 PM »
Hello everyone,
I have some questions,
my husband and I will be soon moving to the UK as I have just gotten my visa, and my parents had always considered moving too since we dont have much family here in the US.
My mom has been a Registered Nurse for the last 15 years, and would very much like to go over on a work visa via NHS or something and have my dad come too on a work visa dependent or spouse whichever. Heres my question, what does my mom need to do to get this work visa, is it permanently valid, and can my dad come as her spouse and if so can he work too in the uk? They plan on staying permanently.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Joni

The upside of coming in as a nurse is that it's easy  ;)  Your mom needs to register with the NMC and then apply for a permit; unless her experience makes a better point score under HSMP, and then go for adaptation if she needs it.

The downside is that they are very aggressive in recruiting nurses out of the Philippines and Africa.  I mean *very* aggressive.  What does it mean?  That the salary is toilet.  Otherwise fine.

As to the permanance of the visa, the NHS nurse visa can be issued for up to 10 years.  But the nurses like to go for ILR after the standard 4 years anyway.  Once they get ILR, they are not chained to the NHS  ;D
