UK company or US ??

I never met another American for the first 15 or so years that i lived here!

Like otterpop, I don't feel out of place at all.  Mostly, I steer clear of others Americans in real life, although I do have some very dear expat friends.  I never had much in common with them and have even less now.

That's a good point.
When i lived in America, i always felt 'different', like i didnt belong.
When i came to Scotland, i figured out why that was... cos i belong HERE!
So for me, there was never any reason to seek out American company, when i didnt like most of the Americans i already knew.
The few American friends i have here, are my friends because they understand EXACTLY what i mean when i say this.

I remember when I first got here and went through a rough patch (unrelated to missing the US)and someone asked me why I didn't just 'go home'.  I replied, w/o missing a beat, 'Because I am already home'.  The second I got off the train in Edinburgh, with just a rucksack of clothes on my back back in April, 2002, I knew I'd found the place for me.
