Brit superstitions may leave my baby nowhere to sleep!!!!!

I've always been a "family bed" proponant so all of my children never had a crib anyway...so if you're not against the idea it would probably be fine for a few weeks.

Family bed here, too!  It's incredibly cheap, gifts can be used in other ways and we all gets lots of sleep.  I just can't go back to sleep quickly if I have to physically stand up.  Breastfeeding very easy to do in family bed, too and nothing like the cuddles and wake up kisses from my toddler to me and baby in the morn'.

Even if you have something for him/her to sleep in, you still may never use it the first few months -  until he was almost two months old our son would only sleep if we were holding him.  I agree with the others that you shouldn't worry about it too much, these things have ways of working out in the end!

P.S.  It is a Jewish custom/superstition to not purchase anything for a baby until it is born

We have looked at nursery furniture at other stores such as Babies R Us, MotherCare, etc, but the package we found in the Argo's catalog really is lovely, and I sort of have my heart set on it....besides you can't beat the price.

My parents were over here in November from the States, and bought us our 3-in-1 travel system....stroller, pram, car seat, etc whatever (which is sitting proudly in our bedroom...superstition be damned...lol), and when DH's parents found out that my parents had bought that, they got all upset about it because they were planning to buy that for us....nevermind the fact that they never told us that (which makes me wonder...if they would have gotten that, and not purchased it for us before baby was born because of this silly superstition...how would we get baby home from the hospital without a car seat???)  So they said that since my parents got the travel system, that they would get the nursery furniture that we had picked out.

We are on a bit of a budget, so we can't really afford to buy alot of items that we will have no use for such a short time after the baby is born....which is why I don't want to buy a moses basket, or a travel cot.

We went to visit my DH's parents the other day, and brought them a print out of the specifcations, ordering info, and length of delivery time information....and DH did mention to his Mom that it can take up to 2 weeks to be delivered.  She got this sort of look of horror and panic on her face, and asked if that meant we wanted them to place the order before the baby was born, then she went on to ask if we were getting a moses basket, etc, and I said no...not wasting the money on one....then I kept my American mouth shut...lol....and DH did the rest of the talking....he backed me up by telling his Mom that we were not going to spend money on something that we think personally (at least for us) is a waste, and that if needed we would have the baby sleep in her pram until the cotbed arrived.  He did go on to say to her that we appreciate them wanting to buy the cotbed, etc, for us, and  that it was entirely up to them when they wanted to order it.  So then his Mom said that they would be willing to "place the order 2 weeks prior to our estimated due date, which falls within the return policy time that Argo's allows, in case something happens to the baby". 
Now I know I am just being hormonal about the whole thing and making mountains out of mole hills, but I felt like saying, "thanks for even thinking that something could happen to my baby..."  I do appreciate their offer to buy the nursery furniture, and I am REALLY trying hard to respect their beliefs, and I will keep my mouth shut to them about my feelings on this matter.....but !"£$%^%&*(&*^&%%$$£""""£$£
Okay enough griping....lol....thanks for letting me vent....and thank you all for your views, ideas, and suggestions on this matter.

I do have a fairly good alternative now though.....I just realized when looking at our travel system, that there is a cosy cot snug insert thingy that fits into the stroller....so we will use that if we have to with no problems.

i think its when the baby sleeps in the bed with the parents...

Hey Janna do you mean the car seat that comes with the 3 in one system? which 3 in 1 have you got? we've got a Graco Sterling and our baby loves that seat so much! He is almost grown out of it now but he learned how to rock it himself when he was only a couple of weeks old and will happily rock away in it for ages and ages, even rock himself to sleep in it. When he was smaller I used to let him nap in it all the time, so yes it would be fine for your baby to sleep in until your cot arrives.   And as others have suggested baby can always sleep in your bed with you at first. That will quite likely happen anyway - I used to fall asleep while feeding Ethan at night and wake up hours later with him lying on my chest sound asleep. 

We have got the Graco Quattro Tour Deluxe Travel System & Autobase.
It "converts to a cosy pram with newborn 'snug' insert".  So this is where Emma will sleep if she has to, until the cotbed arrives.
There will be no chance of Emma sleeping in the bed with DH and I.  I am a VERY restless sleeper, and my DH has actually been bruised from me kicking my legs and waving my arms about while sleeping (I even smacked the poor guy in the face).  So this is one instance when the experts would actually be right in saying that it is not safe to have baby in bed with parents.
