advice on looking for a job
« on: March 10, 2005, 09:10:46 PM »
hello everyone.  i alive in the USA and my girlfriend lives in the UK. i am looking to move over there via a work permit or visa. we want to be together and will eventually get married, but money is tough as of now.  i have a CV done and prepared to send out.  i was wondering if there are agencies that will look at people outside of the UK.  also should i attach a cover letter explaining that i live in the USA and am looking for sponsorship.  most people say i should be honest and tell them the deal with my future wife, as they may  be more understanding instead of me coming there to steal jobs form the British. obviousally i just want to be with her.

another question is should i use her address just so they look at my CV?
any info will be great. and if anyone knows of agencies or jobs, even better!

thanks you
Jeff

Hi jeff,

you might be better posing this question in the visa section, just for info, since you're biggest and first concern is getting a visa so you are allowed to even come to the UK.

It is actually illegal for agencies to consider anyone who doesn't have a visa entitling them to work here.  So until you have a) a fiance visa, or b) are married and have a spousal visa, you aren't likely to get any interest in your CV at all.

I'd advise you do some research into this before you do too much work looking for work.  It could be a big waste of energy!   :-\\\\

Are you allowed to work on a fiance visa?
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Ah...I totally screwed that up!  No you definitely aren't able to look for work on a fiance visa.  I knew that.  I did, really!   ;D
